The person I interviewed was David Bradford who works for Harbor Interfaith Services. Harbor Interfaith Services (HIS), is a social service agency located in San Pedro. HIS primarily serves the residents of the South Bay and Harbor Area of Los Angeles County. Cities served include Torrance, Harbor Gateway, Carson, Wilmington, Harbor City, San Pedro and Long Beach. HIS provides a multi-faceted approach to help its clients by providing programs for people of all ages from new-born to the elderly. However, most people seeking services go first to The Family Resource Center (FRC) which is Harbor Interfaith Services main point of entry. Their case managers will be able to determine what other services the client may be eligible for based on their needs and the available resources at any given time. At The Family Resource Center (FRC) clients such as the working poor and homeless can get food and hygiene supplies as well as clothing if they are within income guidelines. HIS is the lead agency for the Homeless Families Solution System (H.F.S.S.) in Service Planning Area (SPA) 8. If a family is experiencing homelessness, they can call (H.F.S.S.) to be referred to housing resources. HIS also provides an Emergency Family Shelter for families for up to ninety days during which time the head of the household meets with a case manger two times a week to work on taking the necessary steps to acquire permanent housing.
